Downtown Gift Card On Sale Now!

Redeemable at a Wide Variety of Downtown Businesses

Downtown Omaha is staying true to its roots.  The downtown area has gotten a much needed modernized facelift thanks to the area around TD Ameritrade Park, called North Omaha Downtown or NODO for short.  That does not mean Downtown Omaha has forgotten what has made it such a unique place.

Downtown Omaha has and always will be a destination for Omahans and visitors alike.  Not just because of the historic Old Market, Museums, or other cultural events, rather because of the people.  Downtown Omaha has such a wide variety of unique shops and restaurants that it brings people from all walks of life into one place at one time.  No matter who you are or what your background is there is definitely something for everyone to appreciate in Downtown Omaha.

One of the most popular draws about Downtown Omaha is the unique shopping.  Most of the malls in America house the roughly the same stores and big national if not global companies.  Shopping in Downtown Omaha is a little bit different.  Most of the shops are locally owned and operated and have been for the last several decades.  It would be a safe bet to say that there are not many places in Nebraska or the US that you could buy an old school vinyl record, walk a few feet buy a hand rolled cigar, walk a few more feet and buy designer clothes.  The shops in downtown Omaha truly have something for everyone.

The Downtown area is also littered with amazing restaurants and eateries.  From fine dining, to Mexican, to pasta, to French, anything your heart desires can be found in Downtown Omaha.

Why spend your time walking around a mall that is not unique or even that much different than the other mall just a few miles away.  Why not spend your time walking around an area that is as unique as it is historic.  While you shop or eat downtown you are also helping your local small businesses and make sure that they stay locally owned for many years to come.

What better way to gift the gift of fun, food, and shopping to a friend than through the Downtown Gift Card.  The Downtown Omaha Gift Card is the first of its kind that allows recipients to redeem its value at a wide variety of Downtown Omaha’s restaurants, bars, retail and service outlets, event venues, attractions, museums, art galleries, and hotels.  Currently, the gift card can be redeemed at over 65 businesses with more being added every day.  Click here for the complete list of redeeming merchants or go to www.omahadowntown.org.Order your Downtown Gift Card today and let the fun BEGIN!!

The new gift card are available online at www.omahadowntown.org The cards are available in any denomination between $10 and $500, and operate like most gift card programs.  The Omaha Downtown Improvement District Association (DID) oversees the sale and distribution of the gift cards.

A Mother's Day Treat From Hilton Garden Inn

Hilton Garden Inn thinks your mom deserves a special treat this weekend.  Continue reading to find out what that special treat is and how you can win!!

It is officially that time of year where we all are supposed to be a little bit nicer to our mothers.  You know, that amazing wonderful woman who brought you into this world, and cared for you as a child.  Over the years relationships change, but few remain as close and as special as the relationship between mother and child.

When you are younger your mother is there to pick you up when you fall down, kiss your booboo’s, make you special treats on birthdays and other special occasions.  Your role was to be mommy’s little helper, although at times you were probably more in the way than help but hey that’s what kids do.  From helping your mom fold laundry, doing dishes, and especially licking the beaters clean of chocolate chip cookie dough, you were always there to lend a hand to your mom.  As a kid, moms were the ones to smile and be so polite when you would bring her dandelions as a gift on Mother’s Day.  Now as we get older things have changed a little bit but the relationship is still as special.

As you get older a mother’s role changes from being the booboo kisser to the advice giver.  Your mother has drawn from her own life experience to teach and advise you against things to do and things you shouldn't do, while always keeping your health and well being at heart.  This advice giving can be anything, like helping you cope with breaking up with your high school sweetheart by saying, “God has a plan, and things just weren’t meant to be.”  It could even be helping you pick out the perfect engagement ring, wedding dress, or advising you against going to this or that college or doing something crazy like bungee jumping.   At the time, and depending on our mood, odds are we really didn’t want to listen to the advice that was given; we may have even had a few choice words for our mothers.  Things like “You just don’t understand,” “ You never listen to me,” and my personal favorite “Why did I even ask you (with the door slam to add emphasis).”  No matter how bad we didn’t want to hear the advice a little grain of truth managed to get through.  We either listened to our mothers or we didn’t but either way we understood why she advised us the way she did.  Being a mother is one of the toughest and dirtiest jobs around.  One thing most mothers know is that you can tell your child something until your blue in the face, but young children and adult children all need to make their own mistakes and learn from those experiences.  If that wasn’t the case, your mother probably wouldn’t be the breadth of knowledge and advice she is.

Take the time this weekend to thank those special women in your life, the ones who have helped you become the person you are today.  Mother’s Day isn’t just about thanking and appreciating your own mom, it about thanking and appreciating those who have played a motherly role in your life.  Grandmothers and Aunts have been there for you too.  Take this time to thank them too, because if it wasn’t for your Grandmother your mom wouldn’t have had the life experiences to help you along the way.  Remember this no matter how old or young you are, your mother, aunts, and grandmothers care deeply about you and will always want what is best for you, so be grateful for what you have and express the same love and devotion that they have given you over your life.

A Mother’s Love

By Matt Briggs (a son)

A mother will be there for you, No matter what you do

Getting you ready for the first day of school, embarrassing you because she just isn’t that cool

Arguing and getting in a fight, skipping curfew and coming homing late at night

Your mom will be there, at all times just to show she does care

When things aren’t going the best, she will help you get through this life test

Sometimes you don’t see eye to eye, but that’s no reason to make her cry

Always be the first one to apologize, and never tell her any lies

Somehow a mother is always aware, and thinking all my child need is prayer

Listen to what she says when you can, Keep in mind she wants you to be a great man

Be the first to express your love, as all mothers are sent from heaven above

Thank You to all Mothers, Grandmothers and Aunts that have helped shape the lives of children everywhere!!
