Wine Picked by the Best in the World

V. Mertz is hosting a four course benefit wine dinner for the Guild of Sommeliers, a non-profit organization committed to excellence measures and education for wine professionals and wine enthusiasts across the U.S. and abroad, on Thursday, August 11th, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. The evening's proceeds will serve to enhance the Guild's programs and provide further scholarship opportunities for its members.

There are under 200 Master Sommeliers worldwide. On August 11, three Master Sommeliers will host the Guild's benefit dinner. Fred Dame MS, President of the Guild of Sommeliers and founder of the American Court of Master Sommeliers, Geoff Kruth MS, and Matt Stamp MS will be interacting with guests and sharing their knowledge throughout the night as they pour eight wines from the Guild’s cellar in California. This is an unprecedented opportunity for Omahans to meet and learn from three sommeliers at the height of their profession, while sampling a spectacular selection of Champagne, Grand and Premier Cru Burgundy, classified growth Bordeaux, and other classic wines of the world.

V. Mertz is proud to present this benefit dinner for the Guild of Sommeliers Education Foundation.  The Guild of Sommeliers Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization focused on excellence measures, development, inspiration and exchange of information for wine service professionals and enthusiasts.

Major efforts include scholarship programs that provide wine service professionals with financial aid to offset expenses associated with curricula and testing, mentoring of young sommeliers and wine courses taught to nearly 1,000 graduating seniors at six Universities across the country each year. The Guild runs the TOP|SOMM The US Sommelier Championship and Top New Somm Americas Top New Sommelier competitions which provide sommeliers with a vehicle to test their skills and knowledge. Over the last four years the Guild of Sommeliers has awarded over $350,000 in educational scholarships.

Join Fred Dame MS, President of the Guild of Sommeliers, Geoff Kruth MS, Chief Operating Officer, and Matt Stamp MS, Education Program Manager and 2010 TOP|SOMM champion, for an evening of incredible Champagne, Burgundy, and other classic wines of the world. Guests will have the opportunity to meet and learn from three individuals at the top of their profession.

$430 per person ($200 tax deductible as a gift to a charitable organization), tax and gratuity included.

Reservations are limited and should be made by August 1, 2011.

Please call V. Mertz at (402) 345-8980 to make your reservations.
