Nebraska Big Ten Tour heads to Ann Arbor, Michigan
Every football season brings about new changes, new venues, and new teams. However for the last century those changes have been minimal for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, but the 2011 season is drastically different. This year the Nebraska Cornhuskers have joined the Big Ten, one of the nation’s most historic and prestigious conferences. Along with switching conferences Nebraska is faced with 11 new opponents that it must learn, and above all else travel to.
Nebraska fans love their football and travel as well as any of the other top tier programs in the county but this year it is truly something special to be a part of. No more short horribly boring drives to visit Lawrence or Manhatten Kansas ikn the middle of no where, no more dealing with the rude and crude fans of Mizzou and Colorado. The 2011 season ushers in a new era of football and a new era of football venues. Now as part of the B1G Nebraska travels to some of the best college football stadiums around like Ann Arbor, Michigan and Happy Valley. Stadiums and fan bases that are built on the same traditions just like the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Husker fans are known not only for their ability to travel well but for the hospitality when opposing teams travel here. That is exactly what makes the Huskers and the Husker Nation so drastically different than any other team out there. Just ask Notre Dame from the early 2000s and find out what it felt like to have their stadium taken over by the Sea of Red. Granted there are very few away games left this season but none bigger than the inaugural trip up North to visit Michigan in the Big House.

Howdy folks it has been a long productive offseason for your Nebraska Cornhuskers. So where do we start in terms of leading up to the first game of the season. By now all of you know that the Huskers have finally moved on from Big XII to join the now 12 team B1G Ten. This move could not have come at a better time for the Huskers with the Big XII looking like it will be losing a few more members, most notably Texas A&M and Oklahoma. This situation has given rise to a new nickname for the Longhorns, “Conference Killers,” first the SouthWest Conference and now the Big XII. I will highlight more on the move to the B1G as conference play gets closer but let us take a look at the upcoming game this Saturday.
This Saturday’s game against UT-Chattanooga is going to be a little bit lopsided but will give Husker Nation a good taste of what to expect this year. UTC is a FCS opponent that does boast a lot of talent and should not be taken lightly, especially with what happened last year against South Dakota State. Although I want to say SDST was a little bit of a fluke and a trap game last season, but unfortunately that game gave other teams the base to stop the T-Magic Show.
Chattanooga is a formidable opponent with good skill positions, they have 7 pre-season all conference candidates. However, I highly doubt that they will be able to match up very well with the Huskers speed and strength.
Nebraska’s offenses, has been kept under wraps all season, even with what we saw in the Spring Game, (which was a very vanilla version)all we know is it will be up-temp, fast, attacking, and simple. It will most likely resemble a form of Oregon, Oklahoma, and Kansas circa 2007 style. Outside the Husker football program no one truly knows what to expect and I doubt this weekend will show us any more than a little bit of variance from the Spring Game. I would expect a little bit faster pace than the spring game with a little bit more formations but other than that it is anyone’s guess. I would expect to see our base shotgun set, I and Power I formations, as well as wildcat, and pistol formation. What the offense will look like and how it will be executed are two different things, no matter what it looks like Saturday it will be executed with SPEED. The Huskers have just about as much speed as they ever have at the skill positions on offense. Jamal Turner, Aaron Green, Braylon Heard, Ameer Abudallah, Kenny Bell, and Tim Marlowe not to mention Taylor Martinez all have explosive speed and game breaking ability. Couple that with reliability of Rex Burkhead, Brandon Kinnie, and Kyler Reed this Husker offense has big play threats at every offensive skill position. How that speed translates quality of plays is another story, but too much speed means a lot of quick scoring drives for the Huskers on Saturday.
I will say it right now, the Blackshirts will be absolutely destructive this year. The Husker Defense is the furthest along it has been at this point of the season since the Pelini Bros took over. What does that say about how they will play on Saturday, “Watch out Mocs, it won’t a good day in Lincoln for you.” The Blackshirts have three All-American Candidates at each level of the defense, Jared Crick, Lavonte David, and Alfonzo Dennard. Crick will most likely see double teams all day but that leaves t he door open for Meredith, Steinkuhler, and either Martin or Ankrah to have a huge day. With the return of a three man linebacker core expect the defense to be extremely stout against the run. Although Dennard is out with a leg muscle injury, Evans and Andrew Green will step up and have big days. With the amount of pressure that will be put on the UTC’s quarterback the secondary will have an easy day with at least 2 picks and several pass break ups.
Replacing the NCAA’s most accurate place kicker in history won’t be easy but I am not seeing the need for several 40+ yard field goals in this game. The biggest threat of special teams this week will be on the kick return side. Odds are Jamal Turner and Tim Marlowe will be back deep on kickoff return, I wouldn’t be surprised to see one taken back to at least the Moc’s side of the field. Punt returns are where this game is going to get out of hand quickly, Jamal Turner should handle that responsibility with ease in this game. We may even see a glimpse of the past with him to bring us back to the days of Johnny Rodgers and Bobby Newcombe.
Although Chattanooga will be severely out matched in this game, the Huskers cannot take them lightly. I doubt that they will do that, but it just needs to be reiterated. The second and third string offenses and defenses will see a lot of playing time in this game.
Final score prediction 63-3 Nebraska gets its first victory of the season.

It is finally that time of year, where the best Men’s College Baseball Teams from all over the country pour into Omaha to see who is the best of the best. This year will be a little bit different than most, considering the fact that this year’s tournament will be at the New TD Ameritrade Park in downtown Omaha. Over the past several weeks and months there have been growing concern about the parking and traffic that will engulf downtown Omaha for two weeks. Many of the local businesses owners are concerned that traffic and parking will be so horrific that local customers will not even want to venture downtown.
We here at Expedoodle want to let you in on a little bit of a secret about this year’s Men’s Baseball tournament. There is a wonderful store downtown that offers FREE PARKING and is close enough to walk the ballpark, or ride the circular. Not to mention this store has amazing line of Nebraska Made products. From shirts to jewelry, from food to fun, Nebraska at the Market has something to suit your fancy. If you find yourself out and about during the CWS and have visitors asking you where they can find some Nebraska products, be sure to tell them, Nebraska at the Market. Now, whether or not you tell them about the FREE PARKING that’s up to you.
Nebraska at the Market is located on the corner of 13th and Leavenworth where the flags are flying and where the big red Nebraska at the Market Awnings are located. Given the location you don’t have to worry about all the traffic that will be surrounding TD Ameritrade Park. Take Interstate 480 to the Leavenworth exit head east and boom your there, or Take I-80 to the 13th Street exit head north and your right there. Simple straightforward and easy to find.
While you are parking your car at Nebraska at the Market, stop in and check out all they have to offer. We all know Nebraska nor Creighton made it to the Baseball Tournament this year, but at Nebraska at the Market you can stop in and grab some Nebraska or Creighton memorabilia made by Ink Images of Omaha. That way you can show everyone your home team pride!! Wait a second we forgot to tell you Nebraska almost all of your tailgating needs met. Nebraska at the Market has steaks and Nebraska Shaped Burgers from Nebraska Famous Steaks. Not to mention tons and tons of seasonings, spices, and sauces from all over the state. Oasis Seasonings, Dano’s BBQ, and Nebraska Pantry Dips just to name a few. As for snack foods there are beef sticks and jerky from Garvin’s Meats and there is a wide variety of Popcorn from HR Poppin Snacks.
Head on down, stock up and get ready for some BASEBALL with Nebraska at the Market!!
