Omaha Restaurant Week Is Coming – Get Ready Omaha, It’s Time to Dine!

Some of the biggest media outlets and business associations such as Clear Channel Radio, Omaha Publications and the Omaha Restaurant Association are getting ready to launch the first Omaha Restaurant Week this September.   If similar events have been a huge hit in places like Kansas City, Chicago, and Denver why wouldn’t and couldn’t Omaha step up and show them all how it is done.

Omaha Restaurant Week is a special time to help support local Omaha restaurants.  It is not just a time for great deals on food but it is also a celebration of the unique, exciting culinary scene in the Omaha metro.

As part of Omaha Restaurant Week, the participating restaurants will offer a multi-course dinner at a fixed price of either $19 or $29 per person.   These multi-course meals consist of your choice of appetizers, entrees and desserts.   The restaurants, patrons, and most importantly Chefs are eager for Restaurant Week to finally be here  “Our chefs will show off exciting menu items that are sure to ‘wow’ our diners, “ says John Wade, Director of Operations for Restaurants, Inc. and consultant for Omaha Restaurant Week.

Omaha Restaurant Week is also about giving back to the local community.  Restaurants that participate in Omaha Restaurant week support the Food Bank for the Heartland. “Food Bank for the Heartland receives incredible support from local restaurants and we are grateful it will continue through Omaha Restaurant Week,” said Brian Barks, Director of Development and PR from the Food Bank.

Omaha Restaurant Week is sponsored by Omaha Publications, which includes Omaha Magazine, The Encounter Magazine, HER Magazine and Family Spectrum"Omaha Restaurant Week is a tremendous opportunity to celebrate our excellent and diverse culinary community, benefit the Food Bank for the Heartland and have fun dining out,” says Sandy Lemke, City Editor of Omaha Magazine. “It is also a fantastic time to try out new places before you vote in Omaha Magazine’s Best of Omaha ballot where  the restaurant categories are always the most hotly contested.”

Other sponsors include Heartland Payment Systems, expedoodle.com, JM Web Designs and ARAMARK.

Omaha Restaurant Week was organized by Urban Events, Inc., the producer of the annual Riverfront Wine Festival and Omaha Beer Fest. “Omaha is the right city for a promotion like this,” says Jen Kocher, Executive Producer at Urban Events. “We are excited to bring what has been very successful in other markets to Omaha, where you’ll find some of the best independent restaurants in the country.”

Enrollment for restaurants is currently underway. Interested restaurants and sponsors should contact Urban Events for participation information. Jen Kocher, Executive Producer Urban Events, Inc. (402) 850-6776 info@omaharestaurantweek.com www.omaharestaurantweek.com

Omaha Restaurant Week Is Coming – Get Ready Omaha, It’s Time to Dine!

July 5, 2011 OMAHA, NE – Clear Channel Radio, Omaha Publications and the Omaha Restaurant Association are getting ready to launch the first Omaha Restaurant Week this September. The event mirrors similar, successful restaurant weeks in large metropolitan areas such as Kansas City, Chicago and Denver.

Omaha Restaurant Week is a celebration of the unique, exciting culinary scene in the Omaha metro. Participating restaurants will offer a multi-course dinner at a fixed price of either $19 or $29 per person. Patrons can select from their choice of appetizers, entrees and desserts. “We are looking forward to increased traffic and the opportunity to turn new customers into loyal patrons,” says John Wade, Director of Operations for Restaurants, Inc. and consultant for Omaha Restaurant Week. “Our chefs will show off exciting menu items that are sure to ‘wow’ our diners.”

Restaurants that participate support the Food Bank for the Heartland. “Food Bank for the Heartland receives incredible support from local restaurants and we are grateful it will continue through Omaha Restaurant Week,” said Brian Barks, Director of Development and PR from the Food Bank. “The partnership with local restaurateurs is a tremendous asset of our mission to eliminate hunger in Nebraska and western Iowa.  It’s difficult to imagine 22,000 people seek emergency food assistance in our area each week.”

Clear Channel Radio Omaha is sponsoring the event, involving all 5 radio stations, including KFAB and KGOR. They will support Omaha Restaurant Week with air staff dine-outs and on-air feedings. “Clear Channel  is excited and honored to be Omaha Restaurant Week’s radio sponsor. Based on the success and growing popularity of this event in other cities, the promotion promises to be great addition to the fall calendar,” states Meg DeLone, Director of Sales for Clear Channel. “Omaha is rich with fabulous restaurants and this event will offer our listeners new dining experiences.”

It is finally here… and actually here a week earlier than in years past.  This year the Omaha Summer Arts Festival takes place this weekend, June 10th through the 12th.  No matter what your interest is there will be something at the Summer Arts Festival for you.  Are you a fan of paintings, sculptures, and other amazing forms of art? Great there will be plenty there to capture your interest, if not don’t worry about it there will be fun for the kids, amazing food, and great musicians performing.

For starters there are two main stages and a variety of informal staging areas scattered alongside the Gene Leahy Mall.  The Omaha Summer Arts Festival will no doubt bring you three days of nonstop musical entertainment featuring dozens of local, regional and national artists.  The genres include everything such as blues, jazz, Latin, reggae, gospel, alternative rock, disco, and much more.

As we had said before The Omaha Summer provides something for everyone in the family, especially the little ones.  Here are just a few of the Children’s Events your kids can partake in.

•A Children's Fair, offering a variety of hands-on activities—The theme for 2011 is “Art-eology: Can You Dig It?!? ”

•A Family Entertainment Stage full of music, dancing and a whole lot of fun!

•A Young Artist Exhibition, which showcases the fantastic artwork created by school children in grades six through 12.

•A Trash Barrel Art community project will adorn the streets of the Festival.

Sometimes art isn’t for everyone but no need to worry about that at the Summer Arts Festival.  There will be a wide variety of tasty treats at the TasteFest, which is a very popular spot for many festival-goers. With booths spread throughout the site, the Festival offers everything from your traditional festival food to a simple snack, dessert or cold beverage.

The Festival welcomes Omaha based restaurants like Dante Pizzeria Napoletana, Omaha’s first restaurant specializing in Neapolitan pizza. Not to mention Asian-Fusion dishes from O Dining,  natural and organic offerings from Blue Planet Natural Grill, and much much more.

Aside from the normal festivities taking place at the Summer Arts Festival there will also be numerous special events.  For instance the Omaha Public Library Book Sale, will take place on the corner of 14th and Farnam Streets. There will also be special crafts for both children and adults, library card registration, technology petting zoo, and sidewalk chalk art by Matt Seeley.  There will also be OPPD Refrigerator Art Project, Speed Painter Tim Decker will perform, an amazing Dog Show from the Nebraska Kennel Club and the Council Bluffs Kennel Club, plus several more special events.

Restaurant Week is not limited to just one specific area of Omaha. In fact there will be roughly 40 different restaurants from all over the Metro area and that of course includes the suburbs.  Many of the restaurant chefs and or owners have roots or have gained experience in other cities that host a Restaurant week.  From their memories and experiences they remember being slammed during that week and think that its about time that Omaha gets on the wagon and keep the local businesses thriving.

Over the course of the next several months Expedoodle will be your source for more information regarding Restaurant Week.  This will include menu offerings, a full restaurant listing, and maybe even a giveaway or two!! So Stay TUNED!!
