Not Seeing "Red" at The Rose!!

Growing up everyone had at least one favorite book or collection of books that were called their own.  Many times one book would be read so much that the binding wore down and the book was hardly readable.  That’s what childhood is all about and we would bet that many of you would still be able to remember that story pretty clearly.  Now that we have grown we enjoy reading those same timeless books to our children as well.  Showing the child events in the book in real life will help that book even become a stronger part of their life.

The opening weekend of The Rose Theater's season is today.  To kick it off The Rose is showing Ferdinand the Bull from today until September 25th.  Ferdinand has become an amazing story that teaches kids of all ages a simple life lesson.  That lesson is basically not to judge a book (person) by its cover.  Initial impressions can be wrong and the story of Ferdinand highlights how misperceptions can effect everyone involved.

Ferdinand the Bull

Sept. 9-25, 2011

Ferdinand is quiet by nature, always content to sit under the old tree and simply smell the flowers.  Suddenly eager to fit in with a tough trio of bulls, he gives up his life of solitude to train for bullfighting. When it comes time to fight, he is chosen as the fiercest of the bulls.  But can he find a way to “win” and still be true to himself? This musical is a charming testament to the importance of knowing what makes you happy!

Omaha 4th of July Events 2011

It is finally that time of year where everyone from sea to shining sea shows off their patriotism for the whole world to see.  This is the time of year when we celebrate our Independence Day.  Over the years this holiday has become more and more about family, friends, and fireworks.  That in essence is what makes this country great, having the freedom to celebrate in almost any way we desire.  From grilling out to fireworks displays this is truly a special time of year.

Now with the legalization of Fireworks in Omaha, there seems to be firework stands almost on every corner in the city.  While some of those firework stands are off shoots from the big boys in Missouri, we do need to support our local economy.  So before you head out to grab your fireworks this year, do a little bit of research and find a stand that helps out the Omaha community.  Many of the stands in the city are set up to help a charity or to help support a local school’s athletic program.  We just ask that you be kind and help support our local community by purchasing your fireworks at a charitable tent instead of one with ties to Missouri.

There is always some special events going on around the 4th of July here in Omaha and this year is no different.  Check out the list below to find some of the best events in town.
